October Roundup: Fall Skies, Friendly Dates & Unicorns

I’m trying to keep up with myself! Someone recently brought it to my attention that I’m always on go. I’ve been that way since as long as I can remember. So with my monthly roundups, I’ll attempt to document my most exciting happenings!

Quote(s) of October

  • “God will never let what you lost be the best you ever had!” – anonymous
  • “I’m a unicorn!” – Jasmyn N.

Fall Skies & Breezy Walks

My obsession with the Fall Sky was absolutely unreal for the month of October. I don’t know if the skies are always this pretty, but I’ve definitely been noticing them a lot more recently. Shoutout to my girl Malisa, for starting out my month right. We had the intention of doing some hard af course at the Tallulah Gorge State Park, but we ended up just taking a breezy walk through the park. Don’t get me wrong now, we still climbed a few rocks, and climbed those famous stairs, but it wasn’t as bad as you might think. Thanks for inviting me!

Atlanta Pride Parade

This was a shock to me. My company participates in the Atlanta Pride Parade every year, but this was my first time walking in it! This was one of those things that I wanted to do with someone that I knew, but, no one wanted to go! So, like I always do when someone tells me no, I went by myself. AND it was totally okay. I met a few new people from work, and I got to throw out some cute little WarnerMedia themed swag. I had a few mishaps — it was rainy, my goodie bag tore, and swag was falling left and right — but nonetheless, it all panned out.

Dinner Dates With Friends

I’m starting to try to appreciate the time that’s I’m spending with my friends! Friends really are like your extended family members, so our little catch-ups are much needed every now and then. One dinner date in particular that got me in my feels was my very last one with Raajita. My girl is moving from Atlanta for a while, so for one of our last meals together, I ate Ramen, and like always she ate Subway. Haha.

Warner Media Volunteer Day

I was legit on edge about Volunteer Day. Like always, I’d double-booked myself, and this time I wasn’t going to be able to get out of it. I’d rescheduled my Jury Duty to be the same day as my company’s volunteer day. Luckily, I was dismissed and I was able to successfully participate in both of the projects that I signed up for. They were:

The Atlanta Children’s Shelter: Bike Build (Project #1)

The purpose of this project was to build bikes for local children at the children’s shelter who would not otherwise receive anything for Christmas. I absolutely love children, and I fully believe in the holiday spirit, so this project spoke to me.

I went into this project not knowing a thing about the mechanics of a bike. I left the project with an abundance of new knowledge and a huge smile. My team and I successfully put together our bike, despite those pesky brakes! And more importantly, the group of volunteers successfully knocked out 48 bikes in a little over an hour and a half!

Project Linus (Project 2#)

Wow, yet another amazing experience that I am absolutely grateful to have been a part of. I had the opportunity to flex my crochet skills! I teamed up with my company’s Hookers and Stickers group to partake in making blankets for children, who are in need in the metro Atlanta area! Okay, so I didn’t make a whole blanket in two hours, but I did help make a few squares for the blanket.

An Old Friend & A Baby

After about six years, I reconnected with an old elementary school friend. Which is completely wild! I grew up going to her yearly birthday sleepovers, went on a few of her family trips, and even rung in her HS graduation with her. But as many of us know, losing touch is getting easier and easier, despite us being so connected. Anyway, this reconnection all started with a DM. I insisted on visiting her during her baby shower (and she lives far yall), and I’m so glad that I did! I had lots of fun, got to meet some of the extended family members, played some baby-themed games, and met a few of her new friends. Hoping we keep in touch!

Halloween In Athens, GA

“I’m a unicorn!” Boy if this wasn’t the theme of the night then I don’t know what was. Jasmyn literally drove the fact that she was a unicorn into the ground. HAHA. But I love it. Good old Athens was filled with the usual:

  • JERZEES. Enough said.
  • Hedges. Man the lights and the crowd were all dreamy!
  • And of course, it wouldn’t be a night out if I didn’t meet a few new random acquaintances!
  • Seeing my sister! I even let her drive my car…by herself. OMG.
  • AND of course, I had to pop by Mama’s Boy after a night out on the town. After a long-ish wait, I must say that the new Mama’s Boy is aight. I might go again.

Concerts!

It’s hard out here for the concert-goers in Atlanta. Tickets sell out like nobody’s business, but somehow I still find ways to defeat a system that was meant to keep me down! HAHA

  • The first concert of the month was Logic! I’ve seen my man a total of 4x now, and I think I’m officially hanging it up. After experiencing this concert, I truly believe that Logic is out here making music for the youth now. I’m not as in tune with his message as I once was either. I appreciate the evolution of his artistry, but for now, I’ll let him be the GOAT for these other kids out there. As always, I met some cool new companions at the show! Another funny thing happened during the show. Jalysa and I totally took a MAJOR L when we followed this girl down to the floor. We were taking pictures with some randoms, based on the fact that these other girls thought that this man was one of the openers. Totally FALSE. The only thing this man had in common with the opener was that he was black and had those mini dreads that all these boys are wearing nowadays. LAWD.
  • The second concert for this month was RUEL. I’d fallen off with listening to him, and I’d definitely given up on the thought of seeing him live in concert. His show had been on my radar, but it sold out in ATL. By luck, I just happened to come across someone online who’d been selling his tickets. I came close to missing out on the tickets, but someone must’ve really been looking out for me because I got them at the last minute! In the end, Jasmyn and I got the chance to experience the show. I have a new girl crush, Destiny Rogers, and my love for Ruel has been reignited.

Trick or Treat on Techwood Street

I was so excited, I honestly barely took pictures. Haha. I got the chance to spend this year’s celebration with my baby cousin Sydney, her mommy and my friend Jasmyn. I must admit, they stepped up their game this year. The lines were wild, the food had me stuffed and the costumes were extra spooktacular. I got to live out my childhood dreams of saying, “Thanks for watching Disney Channel” and I also saw a headless man on stilts! Wait I can’t forget the Carnaval games! There was just so much!

Lighting Fires w/ Nadia Bilchik

Nadia Bilchik is that chick! Like always, I decided to attend a last-minute event that I found on my company’s website. Walking into the event I didn’t know what to think, or the amount of knowledge that I would gain from being in the prescience of Mrs. Bilchik. She’s extremely accomplished, and just hearing her story inspired me. She took the opportunity to get to know the room (it was about 10 of us) and then went on to part some wisdom on us. She gave us her step-by-step guide to lighting our own FIRE and making sure our prescience is as bold as her prescience was. LOVE IT! A++ experience.

Halloween w/ the ATL Hawks

The Hawks absolutely have a nasty losing streak going on, and I suspect that it’ll continue to the end of the season. BUT even knowing all of that, I still got the hookup and had some pretty good seats! It was a chill game, and I saw the craziest costumes! Guess which costume was the most popular. The clown from IT! 🙄
