7 Things To Quit Immediately For a Happier Life

Why does it always feel like the beginning of the year moves faster than the rest of the year? We’re already 3 months (almost 4 months) into the new year, and I can’t keep up. But that’s just enough time to consider how you’ve been living in 2024. If it’s not going as planned, it’s not too late to get back on track!

While I sit here and think about where in the world the time has gone, I’ll leave you with some things to reflect on to make sure you’re moving in the direction that YOU want to go in.

💡 3 Reflection Questions To Ask Yourself:

  • How am I doing and feeling?
  • What worked for me this month, and what didn’t?
  • Am I balanced? If not, what do I need to give more attention to?

💡 1 Piece of Advice

“‘Never quit’ sounds great, but sometimes, you gotta quit. Be willing to say, ‘This isn’t what I thought it was,’ or ‘This doesn’t appeal to me anymore.’ Remember that you can quit ‘the thing’ without quitting on yourself. Remember that persistence and fluidity can coexist.” – Michell C. Clark

💡 Take Home Assignment

It’s time to take stock. I have a homework assignment for you that will help you continue to reflect on this past month.

After reflecting, review your reflections and create a “Quit List.” That list should include specific items, habits, thoughts, or emotions you are ready to let go of as you move into the next month.

Consider these areas of your life as you build your list:

  • Professional / Career
  • Personal Growth
  • Physical Environment
  • Family & Friends
  • Finances
  • Romance
  • Health
  • Fun & Recreation

7 Common “Quit List” Worthy Items

Here are 6 common actions that make it onto people’s Quit Lists. If you can relate to any of these topics, use them to kick-start your own Quit List.

  • Comparing myself to others
  • Breaking promises to myself
  • Procrastinating on important tasks
  • Clutter in my living space
  • Negative self-talk
  • Unhealthy eating habits
  • Shutting down my side project
