The 10 Side Hustle Commandments According to Michael
- Don’t rely on somebody else to give you a job. It’s best to have multiple sources of income. This includes having multiple clients or contracts.
- Be adaptable and flexible. Tough times are inevitable. No matter what happens, the economy [can] go up and down. Different types of work come around, or a whole industry goes down, you have to be able to adapt to whatever that situation is.
- Create your own style. It’s great to do research and follow a blueprint, but you won’t truly get how to do something until you figure out how it works best for you.
- Begin with the end in mind. Think about how you’ll scale or automate your business before it starts to take off.
- Don’t forget to take breaks. Always listen to your mind and body. Know when what you’re doing is too much. Although you’re having fun, it won’t be as fun anymore if you continuously push yourself.
- Get everything in writing. This ensures that you will be paid for the work that you do. Getting something like a contract is especially important in service-based businesses. Here’s where Michael bought his contract template. You can find other legal templates there as well.
- Have plans in place. You can’t control everything, but you should have basic things in place for when things do happen. For example, you should have a backup plan if you walk away from a project, you should have things in writing, you should know when/how to negotiate, etc.
- Don’t be narrowed-minded. Success isn’t linear. Everything you learn will play a part in your next side hustle, or career move.
- Don’t devalue yourself and be unapologetic. You don’t have to go back to school. You know stuff! Don’t try to build something from scratch when you already have skills. Be willing to pursue them regardless of what people say.
- Surround yourself with good people. Be around people who support you and propel you.
Michael’s Side Hustle Predictions
Michael thinks that we’ll start to see a rise in professional reactors on YouTube. Reaction videos are a set of videos where people dramatically react to everything from music videos to movie trailers.
How They Get Paid: While monetizing on YouTube is an option, some reactors have begun creating special “members-only” videos via Patreon.
Why Will This Be Successful: Michael believes that people love empathy and vulnerability on display. This has only been amplified because of the pandemic. People have also been lonely and this is a way to be connected with others.
