I wasn’t born into a family of lawyers, but that didn’t stop me from getting a front-row seat in the legal world before I even graduated high school.
Shows like Suits and Drop Dead Diva had me locked in! But I never knew that I could get into law that early in the game.
It all started when a colleague of my parent mentioned a program that placed high school students in law firm internships. I had never considered law, but the opportunity intrigued me, so I applied. At first, I didn’t get in. But then, a spot opened up, and because I had already put myself out there, I got THE call.
For three summers, I worked in different law firms, had my own office, spoke with clients, typed up court documents, and even sat in on trials. By 17, I was being mentored by a judge. And all of this happened because I tapped into my Nepo Baby Energy. I stayed open to opportunities, I took action, and I asked for what I wanted constantly.
The best part? I didn’t need a high ranking parent or any special insider connections to make any of this happen. I just needed the right mindset and the willingness to open my mouth!

To help you navigate this process, I’ve created a Nepo Baby Cheat Sheet that breaks down the key terms and concepts you need to start thinking and acting like an “everyday” nepo baby. Once you understand these, you’ll be able to identify the right people, make strategic moves, and confidently build relationships that open doors.
Nepo Baby (noun) – Traditionally, a person who benefits from nepotism, typically in entertainment, business, or politics. But in this space, it’s anyone who knows how to leverage their relationships and opportunities to get ahead.
Everyday Nepotism (noun) – The strategic act of using your existing relationships and connections to advance your career, just like traditional nepotism—but built through effort, intentionality, and relationship-building.
Nepo Baby Energy (noun) – The mindset and action of using your network, making bold asks, and putting yourself in the right rooms to create opportunities—just like traditional nepo babies, but without the famous last name.
Nepo Baby Orbit (noun) – The ecosystem of people around you who can help open doors. It consists of three key levels: Power Players, Key Connectors, and Hidden Gems.
Power Players (noun) – The real MVPs in your Nepo Baby Orbit. This is your inner-circle of champions who have might have already helped you or cheered you on in the past. They know your potential, have already supported you, and are just one conversation away from helping you level up.
Key Connectors (noun) – The networkers and bridge-builders who might not be direct mentors or connections but have access to the people, opportunities, or insights you need to succeed.
Hidden Gems (noun) – The overlooked or distant connections who hold potential value. They’re not immediate power players, but with the right outreach and a little effort, they can open unexpected doors. They are 100% underutilized and untapped, and just because you met them in passing, doesn’t mean they aren’t the RIGHT connection for you in this season of your life.
The Ask (verb/noun) – The bold action of reaching out, making an introduction, requesting mentorship, or seeking an opportunity. Success often starts with the ask.
Nepo Baby Score (noun) – A self-assessment ranking (from “Nepo Baby in Training” to “Nepo Baby Powerhouse”) measuring how well you leverage your network and opportunities. Take the assessment below:
